So out of fun and out of curiosity I'm currently further working on P&F in free time. Recently I have added an P&F indicator for Volume (three modes) and counting OHLC-bars within a P&F column (see below). Now I'm planning to add VAP (volume at price) for P&F. So does anyone know how volume is commonly calculated within each P&F column? Is it the volume since reversal or the volume from reversal to extremum of a swing or the sum of all continuation signals plus vol at reversal or ... ? So far haven't found a profound info on the web. Maybe I'm going to ask at stockcharts.com.

OK, by looking at the P&F charts at stockcharts.com it seems the commonly used volume figures are the ones since reversal till next reversal not the ones from reversal till OHLC swing extremum. So it's the full route. I compared some charts with my ones and the volume figures are pretty much inline.

Metastock (as it seems) provides volume at reversal only.

Ok, success. Adding VAP to P&F has been easier than I thought originally. Not that big of deal really. Though if using PriceVolDistribution you have to use a little "trick" (not really a trick but a logical consequence. Not a big deal too and no problem at all. But it is just a matter of activating brain cells actually). If someone needs to know then ask. So here is current result. (P&F plot looks different than the one of upper picture because upper one uses different intraday session, that's all.)

Nice job fxshrat, the VAP really adds useful info to the P&F. Are you able to share some code to help the AFL challenged? Ok, success. Adding VAP to P&F has been easier than I thought originally. Nice job fxshrat, the VAP really adds useful info to the P&F. Are you able to share some code to help the AFL challenged? Well, I can explain how it is done. I have made two different modes for VAP calculation (using Volume Distribution function): (1.) First one uses the Volume of each OHLC bar of P&F bar direction and H/L of OHLC bar within P&F bar. Start bar is first visible bar and end bar is last visible bar. So in the example picture below and the example P&F bar from 2016-04-27 to 2016-05-06 it is the single volume and H/L of 9 OHLC bars to be used. Same goes for any other P&F direction within chart area. (2.) Second mode uses the overall Volume of each P&F bar and uses H/L of P&F bar. Since those three ones and some other vars are stored in a matrix... as startbar and endbar argument it is used the first and last P&F column of visible chart area. Also since distribution function expects array arguments for the three variables I have used matrix getblock function and with array mode set to true. Some more explanations of lower pane of example picture. The colors of OHLC price: red/yellow one is P&F down bar reversal signal... green/yellow one is P&F up bar reversal signal... yellow ones are continuation signals. The red histogram is the OHLC bar volume of bearish P&F bar direction The green histogram is the OHLC bar volume of bullish P&F bar direction

Thanks very much for the detailed info and screen fxshrat. I am re-learning volume-price relationships and your chart design gives me something to aim for. I was watching an Anna Coulling (book author) video and her screen was a bit similar to yours. But it looked cobbled together from stock indicators rather than custom built.
When you say “… using Volume Distribution function…”, do you mean the 'PriceVolDistribution' function.
I haven’t been able to find any documentation on this function yet. (I haven’t used matrices before.) Do you know of any documentation other than what is contained in the beta release notes?

Yes, I was referring to that function. Documentation/examples can be found in the Readme file of version 6.13. Same goes for matrix functions... already lots of docu to get things going in the readme files of 6.00 to 6... Actually there isn't lots of docu (such as N-pages of essays or an entire novel) needed to understand how it works. You need to learn to read docu that is to the point. I'm with Tomasz on that. There isn't lots of bla bla required telling the same as precisely written sentences or example codes. Also in regards to matrix operations it has been taught in school already (at least in my one). So it is not really AmiBroker specific topic as there is material about matrix/multi dim arrays to be found on the web. The rest is just applying it in AB.
Nevertheless there will be more docu in 6.20 final for sure.
Perhaps I will make a short example in the basics later at some day.

She is an English FX trader who wrote a book A Complete Guide To Volume Price Analysis and posts lots of videos on her website a********.comAny of her videos show the screens they use. Turns out some of her indicators are custom built - they offer them for sale. (MT4 and Ninja) I'm finding her stuff quite interesting and useful.
